Jeanne Marie Brown Bolin, age 80, died Tuesday, March 30, 2004 in Flagstaff, Arizona, USA.

She was born September 5, 1923 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, a daughter of Dr. Maurice V. and Margaret Stokell Brown. She grew up in Needham, MA, Chocorua, NH, and Scituate, MA. University studies began in 1941 at Women's College, University of North Carolina at Greensboro and continued at Vesper George School of Art in Boston. Jeanne was a technical artist during World War II working under the personal direction of Dr. Stark Draper on Inertial Guidance Systems for wartime aircraft, especially the B-29, at the research facility that grew to be the Draper Laboratories at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.), in Cambridge, MA. Later, Draper provided the design for guiding the Apollo spacecraft to land men successfully on the Moon in 1969.

Jeanne married Richard Luddington Bolin on December 18, 1948 in Needham, Massachusetts. They moved to Baytown, TX as employees - Richard in an oil refinery and Jeanne in a synthetic rubber plant. After returning in 1949 to Boston, MA for graduate studies, they settled down in Needham to work for a Cambridge consulting company and raise their family for the next 7 years. The consulting firm sent them to Puerto Rico for 5 years, then to Mexico City, Mexico from 1961 to 1974. At this point they founded their own business and moved to Flagstaff, Arizona. As everywhere else, Jeanne became active in the community. She was president of the Flagstaff Symphony Guild in 1980-81, the founder of the Guild's Bridge group in the late 1970s, a member of the Mayflower Society, and a Daughter of the American Revolution.

She loved painting water colors, pencil sketching, sailing with her husband on Lake Powell, winning bowling trophies, playing the piano, and bridge. Jeanne traveled extensively with Richard on business trips, and always made time to sketch and paint. They traveled to China, Syria, Taiwan, Japan, Mexico, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Russia, South Africa, Turkey, El Salvador, Honduras, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru and Bolivia, as well as other countries.

Jeanne is survived by her husband Richard, her sons Richard (Rick) Luddington Bolin, Jr. of Mesa, AZ, and Douglas (Doug) W. (Sharon) Bolin of Danbury, CT, her daughters Judith (Judy) B. (Bert) Babbitt of Flagstaff, Barbara B. (Tom) Eickmeyer of Flagstaff and Elizabeth (Lisa) Bolin of Anchorage, AK, and thirteen grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Joanne (Jody) B. (Bob) Broomhead of Middletown, RI.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Major Dana W. Brown, US Air Force. Funeral Services were held on Saturday, April 3, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at Flagstaff Mortuary, 2545 N. 4th St. The viewing was at 10:00 a.m., and interment was at Citizens Cemetery, 800 S. Verde.
